Finalist Name: PAH Accounting
Category: Most Innovative Accounting Firm
Further Information:
PAH Accounting was set up specifically to help small and micro businesses. These are often seen as the low value clients by larger firms and Phil wanted to change this mentality. By offering a fixed fee service that is tailored to suit each client’s individual needs, PAH Accounting are able to offer what the client needs at a fair price. PAH Accounting don't offer Gold, Silver and Bronze packages - every client receives Platinum service.
Phil Hendy is the principal and founder of PAH Accounting. Originally from Cornwall, Phil started his Accountancy career in 1996 as a modern apprentice. This involved working whilst studying for the AAT qualification. Initially at a small practice, Phil then moved to Winter Rule of Truro, one of the larger firms in the county. Following completion of the AAT Phil opted to broaden his horizons and move to Cheltenham to study ACCA at a top 40 mid-tier firm, Hazlewoods.
After meeting his now wife, and moving to Devizes, Wiltshire, Phil decided to set up his own practice. PAH Accounting commenced in August 2009. From a personal perspective Phil is married with two children. His wife Claire works within the practice. He is also a keen football fan, both watching and playing.
Phil has recognised that communication is the key to good client service. The team are generally always available using modern methods such as Skype and Social Media as well as the usual post and telephone. A monthly newsletter is sent to all clients and a variety of contacts. There is also a regularly updated blog. A variety of guest articles are featured in the blog, all of which are useful content for small business.
The practice itself has grown rapidly in its relatively short life span. It has a client bank of over 90 and is growing. In January of 2011 the Practice took on Claire Hendy (Phil Hendy's wife!) as a bookkeeper and administrator for the practice.
Phil Hendy also runs a separate business, 'The Accountancy Mentor'. This is aimed primarily at assisting bookkeepers. The service gives them confidence and tools to help them grow their practice.
Phil is a member of 4Networking and also set up and co-runs the Wiltshire Business Club, networking groups for small businesses. Both have helped the practice to gain clients, get good suppliers and forge relationships with contacts.
